There's not much in Malmsbury. Even less when you've lost your one (and only) wallet (within 10 minutes of arriving), and your only phone is out of credit. The shops are closed. The motel owner's out of town. The buildings are run down. We're in the rain/hail. Out of food/luck. No hot water. Just a heater (thank fuck). Tails we stay, heads, we go. The coin always knows.
A couple of days ago, Jennifer and I set off on another adventure. This time we drove to Hanging Rock in the Macedon Ranges to the sounds of 90's pop music and an assortment of road trip related songs that we could just barely manage to agree on.
When we got to Hanging Rock we decided we weren't going to have a picnic, and climbed to the peak instead. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't manage to lose her. (The movie made it look so easy!) There was one guy we were sort of following. We'd like to think his name was Hans. And then on the way home the car sort of broke down. A journey is not an adventure until something goes wrong.
Anyway, here's a few photos from Hanging Rock and the stop-offs on the way there.
There's something strangely satisfying about having a quality DSLR camera and choosing to go with a disposable one instead.
January adventures to the Howqua river and Fitzroy gardens with Speer.
A massive THANK YOU to the modern day Mansfield and Howqua River heroes (hitch-hiker service, general area informer and all-round nice guy Camper Steve, Mr Local Postman, Guy the chair-doner from Patterson Lakes, Mr Backpacker Joint Owner, Mr NOO-DOH!!!, and Judy, the local cafe waitress) who made our trip as unpredictable and enjoyable as it was.
I finally finished 2nd year drawing at the VCA last Friday. Going a little batty toward the end of it.
At 4:00am, the scanner was proving a bit of a welcome distraction, and a whole lot of fun. Luckily, the 80 odd facial distortions I scanned one night fitted nicely with trends in the rest of my work.
Late night production and the art of procrastination.
